Considering that the UK won't allow the president or entourage to "enter" the country during the refueling stop, I'd say it was a matter of diplomatic issues rather than the availability of medical care. Many people, including dictators, seek care in the UK.

So, you think that only the US has advanced treatment? I recently heard on the radio about an American who had to go to Sweden for a procedure not available in the US.

College football players (and others) are supposed to be "student-athletes." It made no sense to turn down a chance for the incredibly prestigous Rhodes Scholarship to play a football game.
